Here are the fabrics I picked for my section of the charity quilt for the Austin Children's Shelter. Clockwise from the top left the gray and orange are from the Cuzco line by Kate Spain for Moda, the five prints top right and the ombres bottom right are from the new line Simply Color by Vanessa Christenson of V and Co. for Moda and the two polka dots are Twirl by Me and My Sister Designs for Moda. I picked them all up in fat quarters at Country roads last week.

Recap of Meeting Two!
Show and Tell
Madrona Road by Violet Craft for Michael Miller Fabrics Challenge: We divvied up 6 different fabric yards between the 6 attending members that chose to participate in this challenge. We all ended up with 6 lovely fat sixths! As a group we decided to try our hand at a bucket bag or any bag with handles and a round bottom. We have to use only fabric from the Madrona Road collection or solids. The project is due by photograph on January 31, 2013 if you wish to be entered into the national competition OR due by the meeting on February 07, 2013 if you wish to compete at the local level only.
Name Tag Challenge: From five lovely entries a winner was chosen! Pat Reasinger deservingly received the cherished mug painted with the NWVMQG logo for her geometric name tag in our first challenge!
Charity Twin Quilt: our attending group members received a block or two to make into an 18 x 39 inch section for our charity quilt donation to the Austin Children's Shelter. All blocks need to be on point and use colors appropriate to the QuiltCon logo. We are trying to keep the white to a minimum because it will get a lot of use. We are looking to set up a group sew date mid January to complete the quilt top together as the finished quilt needs washed and sent to Austin in early February.
Improvisational Piecing Demo: Amanda Reilly put together a brief but informative demonstration on two types of improv piecing, straight line slash and stitch and freehand curves. I see an improv round robin in our future!

Big Tent: You're Second Step
The best way to hear news about the New Northern WV Modern Quilt Guild is by subscribing to the blog feed. The best way to become involved in the guild is to become a member of the guild by entering your information into Big Tent. Big Tent is a social page where all of our members can share information and photos, kind of like Facebook, but it also provides the group leadership with a directory of members. You can join the Big Tent group at this link https://www.bigtent.com/groups/nwvmqg or by filling out the "Join Us" section in the right sidebar! If you would like to know more or would like to join the group but aren't ready for the jump to Big Tent please e-mail me at nwvmqg@gmail.com and let me know you're interested.
